3. Cooperating & Collaborating
We work in a sector that would benefit immensely from the sharing of ideas, and resources.
There are many different organizations working to help vulnerable children in Africa, but there appears to be a lack of systemic wide-scale communication and cooperation among national and international childcare providers. We are working to change this. In order to establish our model of childcare, we will hold an annual Childcare Forum to facilitate communication and networking between providers, and identify where immediate and effective action can be taken.
Our first conference, “Education: Overcoming Inertia: will be held in June 2009 at Flying Kites Kinangop. It will bring together local care-providers, decision-makers at larger agencies, members of rural communities, academicians and politicians. This conference will focus on how common obstacles - often relatively minor on their own - undermine educational efforts in children’s homes.

Education: Overcoming Inertia
26-29 June 2009 Kinangop, Kenya
Education: Overcoming Inertia is an inter-disciplinary conference which aims to bring together local care-providers, decision-makers at larger agencies, members of the local community, academics, politicians and other practitioners.
The Flying Kites Forum will be held at Flying Kites Kinangop, Kenya between the 26-29 June 2009. The focus of the conference will be maximizing educational benefits within developmental contexts. It will be examine both the physical and the institutional environment in which learning takes place. It will also identify factors that restrict effective learning as well as strategies to minimize their effect.
Abstracts on the following topics would be welcome:
Education in a development context.Promoting creativity in the classroom.
Holistic education.
Nature as an educator.
Incorporating vocational and life-skills training into standard educational system.
Strengthening public sector education.
Innovative educational collaboration.
Gender inclusion in the educational system.
Submission of abstracts are due by April 27 2009
