Sponsorships
The sponsorship opportunity is a one-year commitment. Donors are given the option to pay on a monthly or yearly basis. Our sponsorship program is an ongoing donation to a child in the community, or at Flying Kites Kinangop.
Option One Moja Club
The first sponsorship opportunity is a contribution to our Community Outreach Program. A monthly gift of $12 will make an enormous difference to a family in need. As an orphanage based in a poor country, Flying Kites Kinangop is often overwhelmed by the amount of admission applications we receive from local families who are struggling to care for orphans. Our Outreach Program assists these families with grants and food provisions. Current grants, which range from $3 to $17 dollars a month, are awarded on a case-to-case basis, and are generally spent on school uniforms, housing needs and food. A contribution to the Outreach Program will help keep children where they need to be: in schools, and with their families.
For children who are not able to live with extended family members, we ask friends to help support our home and school. In order to give donors a sense of our operating expenses, we have broken down the needs of the children into four main categories: domestic, medical, educational and extracurricular. Electing to pay for one aspect of a child's care does not mean that the other categories listed will be neglected; one child may have several sponsors.

Option Two Mbili Club
By sponsoring a child's domestic care at Flying Kites, you are essentially helping us run our Center and farm. This category encompasses general childcare needs (such as clothes and shoes for the children) as well as our basic operating costs on the ground in Kenya. All of our international staff members are working on a voluntary basis and none of the directors receive a salary or expenses. The funding in this section will be used to pay the Kenyan Aunties' salaries, and to purchase necessary farm supplies (livestock, seeds, fertilizer).

Option Three Tatu Club
Sponsoring a child's medical expenses is also an important way to care for abused, orphaned or abandoned children. Although each child's medical needs are different, all of the children at Flying Kites Kinangop incur medical expenses. A child who comes to live at the Center will receive a general physical check-up. Almost of all the children are undernourished, and many children are battling malaria, typhoid, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. While Flying Kites Kinangop receives free antiretroviral medication to treat HIV/AIDS, we still incur costs associated with the treatment (specialized care, staff training, transport to the local city hospital) and currently spend an estimated $4,500 per year on other medical expenses.

Option Four Nne Club
With a child's general well-being tended to, one of our biggest priorities is developing our on-site school. Sponsoring a child's education will allow us to purchase schoolbooks and supplies, pay teachers' salaries, and prepare for the International Baccalaureate registration.

12 Payments of $62 |
Option Five Tano Club
Our last category defines all those things that make our home exceptional. Funding for this category will be used to fund intensive after-school tutoring, karate and music lessons, field trips, sports and equipment, nature workshops and general extracurricular activities that we believe are essential to implementing the Flying Kites philosophy.
Sponsoring a child is a wonderful way to help Flying Kites grow. Through detailed updates from your child's caregiver, and communication from your child directly, you will ultimately experience what Flying Kites is really about, the day-to-day achievements of the children - from crayon drawings, to stronger immune systems, and from moving up national test scores to breaking tree-climbing records!
